Yedikule Castle; is one of the most important defense walls of the Byzantýnes. Also, the largest and most impressive entrance gate of Byzantian Istanbul can be found here: The Golden Door (Altýn Kapý). This was the official entrance door. The door was only opened when an emperor had achieved a victory. The monks used to welcome the emperor with a ceremony. The emperor used to sit on his throne, and was carried through the door on a carriage towards the palace. The Golden Door can still be observed, however, most of the decorations have disapppeared. Next to the enormous gate, which was also the gate of the road to Rome, were statues in the shape of bronze human beings and eliphants. Decorations're added during Fatih Sultan Mehmet's reign. Yedikule Castle's used as the Public Treasury, depot, and as a prison for foreign ambassadors. Today, concerts are held at this place.
